Things for Adults at Walt Disney World

With magical stories around every corner, Walt Disney World is synonymous with incomparable family entertainment. From the comprehensive attention to detail in settings both real and imagined, to the personal encounters with beloved characters, this world-famous destination offers countless possibilities for children and adults alike to play, learn, and dream together.

Despite its dedication to providing world-class escapism for all ages, this incredible destination can also play host to the retreat of a lifetime for adults and couples traveling without children!

Let’s take a look at a few places within the Walt Disney World Resort, and how they offer an unparalleled escape from adult responsibilities.

Theme Parks

Rising above your teenage years doesn’t have to mean leaving behind childlike wonder and excitement, and no Walt Disney World vacation would be complete without a day for each of its four theme parks.

Magic Kingdom offers the perfect place to tap into your inner royalty, swashbuckling pirate, space-faring astronaut, and gold-chasing cowboy all in the same day!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park can transport you to the wild African Serengeti, the daunting Mount Everest, and the nail-biting asteroid impact at the end of Earth’s Cretaceous Period.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have you marching with Star Wars’ iconic Stormtroopers, dropping in on a swinging 1930’s hotel in its twilight years, and lifting the curtain behind some of Hollywood’s greatest stunt action sequences.

If time is short, Epcot is likely the best choice for memorable experiences catering to adults. From world-class dining options offering a tapestry of culinary styles and flavors, to demonstrations in art, gardening, and cooking by revered experts, Epcot revels in cultural exchange and humanity’s greatest achievements. Spend the day absorbing the architecture and celebrated customs highlighted in charming pavilions representing China, Mexico, Italy, and many others. Take in an electrifying concert from a Top-40 musical artist, accompanied with a glass of iconic German beer or Mexican Sangria. Then, head to the United Kingdom for some authentic Fish and Chips while getting lost in the romance of historical London. Round out your day with a delectable French pastry, while the picturesque, 40-acre World Showcase Lagoon comes alive in a nighttime spectacular that combines pyrotechnics, lasers, and a moving soundtrack.

Outdoor Recreation

If theme park-hopping has you aiming for a slower pace, the four championship-level golf courses of the Walt Disney World Resort can be a great place to recharge. Challenging yet approachable, each course offers 18 holes amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of Central Florida.

Short on time? Feel free to play either the front or back nine of any course.

If making par isn’t your favorite pastime, kick off a game of footgolf – a new offering that combines the precision and open spaces of traditional golf with the energy of soccer, appropriate for any level of athleticism.

Also offered are four mini golf courses, in two distinct settings. While the Winter, Summer, and Fantasia Gardens courses offer the whimsical, chance-based simplicity and fun of themed mini golf, the Fantasia Fairways course demands the precision and skill of traditional golf, but on a smaller scale. Water hazards and sand traps challenge novice and expert putters alike, through holes ranging in length from 63 to 109 feet.

Many of the 30+ resorts within the Walt Disney World resort offer watercraft rentals, including sport and pontoon boats, perfect for a leisurely cruise along natural lakes and rivers. For a special touch, these outings can also include a catered meal. For landlubbers, rental bikes are available to explore tree-lined riding trails and flowering meadows.

Disney Springs

Looking for storied brands, renowned chefs, and sparkling nighttime entertainment? Disney Springs blends shopping, dining, and live music in a vibrant, yet relaxed environment.

Exclusive, jaw-dropping performances by Cirque du Soleil can be found next to dozens of renowned storefronts such as Uniqlo, Oakley, Ugg, Sephora, and Lacoste.

Find your favorite soda from around the world (with or without alcohol) at the Coca-Cola Store and Rooftop Beverage Bar.

Combine a perfectly-cooked steak with the pulse of a Las Vegas nightclub at STK.

Immerse in the Steampunk atmosphere and eclectic menu of The Edison, or indulge in amazing sushi at the signature restaurant of Masaharu Morimoto, of Iron Chef fame.

As night falls, take in the sights and sounds of local artists performing on the many stages and airy sidewalks throughout Disney Springs. Complement the beauty of a Florida sunset with a cruise through Lake Buena Vista in a fully-restored vintage Amphicar, and score tickets to a performance of your favorite music group at the House of Blues.

For adults looking for culinary adventures, shopping heaven, and live performances, Disney Springs has the perfect day on tap.

The Walt Disney World Resort captures the imagination and excitement of children and families everywhere, drawing on timeless stories and unexpected adventures. However, this one-stop vacation destination also offers innumerable experiences catering to those traveling without children. From high-energy musicians and awe-inspiring fireworks, to designer fashion and unforgettable meals, “grownups” of all ages will find limitless ways to leave behind the stresses of adult life.
