Lesser-Known Attractions You Shouldn't Miss at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is chock-full of iconic attractions and experiences. These headliners are household names with not only lifelong park-goers, but even those that have never been to Florida! Postcard-worthy rides such as Space Mountain, Expedition Everest and It’s a Small World are on the “must-do” list of almost everyone who makes the journey to The Most Magical Place on Earth.

However, each corner of the Disney parks offers some lesser-known experiences that are just as memorable, and provide the same quality Disney magic as their more popular siblings!

Let’s look at a few examples from around “The World”!

Magic Kingdom – Tom Sawyer Island

Surrounded by the rustic beauty and old-world charm of the Rivers of America, this quiet, tree-filled corner of the Magic Kingdom doesn’t feature any high-energy rides or shows. Instead, guests of all ages travel back in time to the era of Moonshiners and Pirates, exploring treasure-filled caves and wilderness forts. Younger adventurers are given many safe play areas to run and climb, and walking paths and water bridges offer a simpler, more peaceful side of the Magic Kingdom. Try to find the secret tunnel escape from Fort Langhorn!

Epcot – Living with the Land

Epcot celebrates the accomplishments and artistic wonders throughout humankind. Living with the Land takes a closer look at how our abilities to grow sustainable food have evolved. Aboard a slow-moving boat, you can wind your way through a narrated tour of some of the various ecosystems across our planet, from rainy grasslands to the sun-drenched tropics. Then, take a inside look at hydroponic techniques employed in some of the cutting-edge greenhouses at Walt Disney World. The crops grown in these state-of-the-art glass buildings are harvested for Epcot restaurants, so the delicious lettuce and cucumbers seen on your tour may make their way to your salad plate later that night!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Walt Disney Presents

Tucked away within WDW’s third theme park, this engaging walk-through attraction pays tribute to the man behind the mouse – Walt Disney himself. Born in 1901, Walt started from humble beginnings, but used his incredible artistic skill and unflappable determination to create one of the foremost media and entertainment organizations in history. Entertaining and enlightening, this collection of models, equipment, sketches, and artwork provides an intimate look at the creation of iconic characters and inspiring storylines. The modern era is also well-represented, as recent expansions such as Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are exhibited from concept to construction.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Na’vi River Journey

James Cameron’s Avatar introduces us to the Na’vi, a proud and peaceful race native to the fictional planet of Pandora. Deeply linked to the natural wonders and life force of Pandora, the Na’vi invite us to take a slow-moving night cruise along the river through the stunning bio-luminescent forest. An experience that begins as a quiet reflection of natural beauty culminates in a musical celebration of life, as the Shaman of Songs brings together tribal rhythm and harmony to spread her message of welcoming and connectedness with the nature around us.

No trip to Walt Disney World is complete without a visit to a few of the landmark attractions that have become synonymous with family entertainment and lifelong memories. However, finding a few tucked-away activities in all four theme parks can round out the perfect family vacation with a more peaceful and personal flavor of Disney Magic!
